Scalp erythema and scaling may occur in patients with dermatomyositis.

Stress is the new age factor that is major contributor to hair thinning. Work related stress is something that is unavoidable in today’s competitive world. It is essential to learn a way to strike a balance between work and personal life to stay healthy.

A Diagnostic Approach

The problem of thinning hair should be treated in time to avoid the problem of baldness. A thorough examination of the hair and scalp, undertaking routine blood tests would help reverse a significant amount of hair loss problems. A trichologic examination (a trichogram) defines the stage of damage to the hair, an overall assessment of the condition of hair and scalp, a determination of the speed of growth and the daily loss of hair. Undertaking routine blood tests such as TC(Total Count), DC(Differential Count), Hb(Haemoglobin), etc is crucial in the treatment for falling/thinning hair. Other blood test pertaining to a specific condition such as, overactive or underactive thyroid gland, decrease in testosterone level, high incidence of insulin level etc lead to hair loss.
